Welcome to Inside People Analytics, my blog exploring how recent (and not so recent) methodological developments can be used to gain insight into human behavior. My name is James (Jimmy) Rigby and I develop a lot of the content you will see posted on this site. I earned my Master's from the University of Houston in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and my job is primarily to apply statistical analyses and machine learning techniques to answer critical business questions. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with organizations across a variety of industries including health care, manufacturing, and transportation. These opportunities have provided me with almost a decade of experience using R to manipulate, visualize, and model large data sets to solve real-world problems. I hope to use this site to share some of my knowledge and learn from others along the way.
Broadly this site is intended to serve three purposes. The first is to act as a publicly available outlet discussing the application of statistics and machine learning to solve real-world problems encountered in the workplace. The second is to provide a set of resources to learn how statistical and machine learning techniques are actually implemented. Finally, I hope to move beyond the naive implementation of these techniques and discuss the inner workings of how these things work in an accessible way! In each post, I will do my best to illustrate how each method and concept can be implemented to solve real-world problems!
Most of my content is developed as a byproduct of the work I do within organizations, discussions with my colleagues, or in response to questions from my students. I would be remiss not to acknowledge their direct and indirect contributions to all of my work. Please enjoy the site and reach out with questions or requests for future posts!
